GUIDELINES AND MECHANISMS FOR ACADEMIC HONORS AND AWARDS

Notre Dame University-Basic Education is adopting the provisions and guidelines of DepEd Order No. 36, s. 2016- Policy Guidelines on Awards and Recognition for the K to 12 Basic Education Program. The honors and awards system recognizes the academic achievements of the pupils/students as well as their outstanding performance in leadership and service, sports, performing arts and other aspects of development that manifests their character and excellence. 

The pupils/students who have met the criteria and standards, criteria and guidelines shall be given recognition.


There are three awards:

  1. Classroom Awards


These are given to pupils/students in each class or section. A simple honors convocation program is given per quarter or semester.

  1. Grade-Level awards


These are given to qualified pupils/students for every grade level at the end of the school year.   A simple recognition program is conducted to give these awards.

  1. Special Recognition


This is given by the school to the pupils/students who have represented and/or won in competitions at the district, division, regional, national, or international levels. These pupils/students have brought honor to the school through their exemplary performance in academic, athletics and arts.  The actual plaques, medals, trophies, certificates can be awarded to the students during the morning program or ceremonies. 

 

The following are the classroom awards:

  1. Performance Award for Kindergarten


This award is given to Kindergarten pupils for their most evident and most prominent abilities. They can also be recognized for showing significant improvement in a specific area and for their outstanding achievement based on the different domains and/or learning competencies of the Kindergarten curriculum at the end of every quarter.

  1. Conduct Award


This award is given to pupils/students who have consistently demonstrated the DepEd and NDU core values.  Candidates must not have been sanctioned with offenses punishable by suspension or higher sanction within the school year.  They should have obtained at least 75% of the total Always Observed (AOs) from the first to the fourth quarter periods.  The pupil/student shall receive a certificate of conduct award at the end of the school year.

  1. Perfect Attendance Award


A pupil/student shall receive a certificate of Perfect Attendance at the end of every quarter for having been present at all times in classes, class activities and school programs.

  1. Academic Excellence Award


This award is given within the quarter to pupils/students from grades 1 to 6 who have attained an average of at least 90 and passed all learning areas. The Average Grade per Quarter is reported as a whole number following DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015.

With High Honors/May Mataas na Karangalan  95-97
With Honors/ May Karangalan  90-94

 

Institutional Policy:

As a school of character and excellence, all candidates for honors from grades 1-12 for a particular quarter must be of good moral character and must have not been sanctioned with suspension within the quarter of the school year. 

 

The Grade Level Awards are the: 

 

  1. Academic Excellence Award


This is given to pupils/students from grades 1 to 6 who have attained a General Average of at least 90 and a passing Final Grade in all learning areas at the end of the school year.  The General Average is reported as a whole number following DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015.

With Highest Honors/May Pinakamataas na Karangalan  98-100(gold medal)
With High Honors/May Mataas na Karangalan  95-97(silver medal)
With Honors/ May Karangalan  90-94( bronze medal)

A pupil/student who was disqualified to receive an academic excellence award in a particular quarter for being subjected to disciplinary actions is qualified in the overall/grade level academic excellence award which is given at the end of the school year or during the recognition day. He/she should have a General Average of at least 90 and a passing Final Grade in all learning areas. Only the grades in the current school year shall be considered in the computation of honors.

Academic Excellence Award shall be given during Completion/Graduation Ceremonies.

 

  1. Leadership Award


This is given to a graduate (Grades 6) who have demonstrated exemplary skills in motivating others and organizing projects for the betterment of the school and/or community. 

To qualify for this award, a pupil/student must:

    1. Have no failing grades in any academic areas
    2. Have not committed any offense punishable by suspension or higher sanction
    3. Be a class officer, SPG/SSG officer or an active member of any recognized school club, team or organization.  

There can be two or more recipients for this award as long as the nominee meets the criteria by at least 90%. Both the moderator/adviser and the peers of the nominees shall use the rubrics provided.  The awardee/s shall receive a gold medal.

The Leadership Award shall be given during Completion/Graduation Ceremonies.

 

  1. Award for Outstanding Performance in Specific Disciplines


This is given to pupils/students who excel in the respective areas.  These are Communication Arts (English and Filipino), Science, Mathematics, Social Sciences (AP), Technical-Vocational Education (TLE) in different strands, RS/EsP (Islamic and Christianity), Athletics (Athlete of the Year), Performing Arts, and Journalism (English and Filipino).  There can be two or more recipients for this award as long as the nominee meets the criteria by at least 90%. The moderator, subject teachers, coach shall use the rubrics provided.  The awardee/s shall receive a gold medal.

Only the grades, participations/representations, performances, memberships, achievements and awards in the current school year shall be considered in determining awardees.

The Award for Outstanding Performance in Specific Disciplines and Institutional Awards shall be given during the Recognition Day. 

Note: Peer evaluation is only applicable to disciplines that involve collaborative work. Candidates will be evaluated by at least 30% of their peers (group, team, class or club mates) as well as their class or club advisers.

The Honors and Awards Committee (HAC) shall be organized by the school head or principal. This may be composed of at least three (3) members from the teaching staff, guidance counselor or designated teacher.  Together with the adviser, subject teachers, moderator and/or coach, the members of the committee shall evaluate and deliberate the list of nominees for each award using the rubrics based on the portfolio of the candidate.  The chairperson could be any of the teachers, department head, grade-level chairperson, or curriculum head.  No member of the HAC must be related within the second degree of consanguinity or affinity to any of the candidates for awards.
